Problem: The owner had
installed three roof systems on this building in fifteen years since its
initial construction. The F.M. wind
uplift codes did not apply to a structure of this height.
|
To add
to the complexity of the project the hotel, which is the largest
in the state of Michigan, was over 120 feet high. There
was very little room for set-up and project logistics was a
major deterrent. The geometric configuration of the building
also posed significant architectural concerns.

 |
Solution: To design a new
roof system suited specifically for this building. The system had been
approved by a major manufacturer as a 20-year roof system.
The system is a complex orientated
system that has been designed with stringent safeguards. The success of
the system is in the redundancy of the waterproofing layers. There are
actually three layers of waterproofing protection designed in this
system.
